Miss Wilczynski (STEAM Teacher) and an 8th grade student from CMS are holding a STEAM workshop after school on April 29th from 2:50pm - 3:40pm, for 5th grade students. In this fun, hands-on workshop, "DNA Quest", students will be exploring real world biology by extracting DNA out of a strawberry using simple and safe materials in school. Through guided steps including mashing strawberries, filtering the liquid, using a special solution to crack the cell wall and get to the DNA, students can use real world scientific methods to see the DNA with their own eyes. This will create a pathway of interest where students can get an insight into biology. This lab helps the students to understand that all living beings have a DNA of their own. It is a fun, engaging way, for young learners, to experience biology in laboratories while building curiosity and confidence in STEAM.
This workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 29th from 2:50 pm - 3:40 pm in the Mountain Park gym. If your child would like to attend, complete this google form. Registration is limited to the first 20 students to register. Please note there will not be a nurse present during this activity.

This is a reminder that this Thursday, April 23, is Take Your Child to Work Day. We hope this will be a valuable opportunity for students to explore the workplace and learn about different careers.
If your child will be absent to participate, please remember to report their absence in Pickup Patrol and select the “Take Your Child to Work Day” option.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
