NJ State Assessment Update (Revised-Changes in RED reflecting NJ DOE update on 3/18/19)
The State of New Jersey has formally transitioned the name of the State Assessment from PARCC to the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA) in English Language Arts (ELA), Math, and Science.
ELA Testing will take place for all students in Grade 3 to Grade 1011.
Math Testing will take place for all students in Grade 3 to Grade 8 and for students (through Grade 10) currently enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry or Algebra 2.
Grade 11 students are not required to take the NJSLA ELA or Math assessments during Spring of 2019. Grade 11 students are required to take the NJSLA-Science Assessment.
Science Testing will take place in Grades 5, 8, and 11.
The number of test questions, the number of test units, and the total testing time have all been reduced in the ELA and Math assessment compared to last year.
Berkeley Heights has been selected as a Field Test District meaning that there will be an additional unit of ELA Testing in all Grades from 3 to 11. These questions are mixed into the testing and the students will not be aware of what questions are being field-tested. This field test process impacts one third of all districts in the state each year.
The state graduation requirements for the Class of 2019 and the Class of 2020 have been clarified by the state of New Jersey. Information regarding these requirements can be found by clicking here.
