Remember PTO transactions can now be done on-line on Community PassIn the Fall of 2011, we announced the launch of a web-based system for handling Hughes PTO forms, event registration and monetary transactions. The system, called Community Pass, replaced the paper forms and flyers previously sent home in the students' backpacks. Hughes is the first Berkeley Heights PTO to adopt this process. We have reaped many benefits with this new system both for parents signing up their children and for chairpersons managing committees and events.
With Community Pass, families can securely register their children from any computer with internet access, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, using a credit card. (We will continue to accept check or cash payments sent in to school with your child). The majority of Hughes families are already familiar with Community Pass for program registration with the Berkeley Heights Recreation Department. The Community Pass account that families create for the BH Rec can also be used for Hughes PTO transactions.
Here are the basic steps to use the system:

Communication Tools of the Berkeley Heights Public Schools
The BHPS district utilizes a variety of tools to keep parents apprised of happenings in individual schools and throughout the district as well as to communicate with parents regarding their children's progress and opportunities. The information in the table below is being passed along by the PTO as a courtesy.Tool
DescriptionDistrict websiteHughes School website
The district website contains news and information relevant to all school families, including calendars, handbooks, policies, curriculum guides, Board of Education meetings, lunch menus and community announcements from area organizations. It also provides links to the FirstClass, PowerSchool and Honeywell system portals (described below) as well as the individual school websites.
All school notices relevant to Hughes families are posted in the THPARENT folder on FirstClass. Click on the link at left, enter the Hughes userid and password, and click Login. When the FirstClass window opens, double-click on the News for THPARENTS folder icon. A list of documents appears in reverse chronological order.
This student demographic system serves as the primary portal for parent and emergency contact information, data mandated by the state department of education, and—at the middle and high schools—student attendance and grade information. It replaces the physical contact card used in years past as well as the annual publication consent form. It should be updated every September and whenever a parent’s contact information or emergency contact’s information changes.
This is the emergency notification system that the district uses when school needs to be closed or there is a delayed opening or early closing (replacing the phone chains used in years past). It stores parents' contact information and preferences regarding methods of communication (e.g., phone, e-mail) and as such should be updated whenever there is a change.
