DELAYED OPENINGS
Decisions concerning the closing of schools are made by the Superintendent after consulting with the Berkeley Heights Police Department, DPW, and school maintenance personnel. The Berkeley Heights Public School District uses School Messenger for mass notifications.
Please ensure your contact information is up to date in PowerSchool.
A delayed opening of schools will occur when deemed in the interest of pupil and employee safety. The delayed opening schedule will be used for those inclement days when a full day’s closing may not be needed.
Delayed openings will be exactly two hours after the school’s regular start time. So, if your child is at CMS, the original start time is at 8:10. With a two-hour delay, the time will be 10:10. If your child rides the bus, they will need to be at their bus stop two hours later than normal.
Start times are below for a two-hour delay:
GLHS - 9:50
CMS - 10:10
MP, TPH, WW - 10:25
MKM - 10:45 for first grade only.
If you have AM Preschool, school will be canceled.
If you have PM Preschool, it will run on a normal schedule.
You must keep in mind that a delayed opening may be changed to a school closing if weather conditions worsen. Also, please understand that the district is reliant upon accurate weather forecasts.
