Welcome to Social Studies!  (We are studying history while we are making history this year- how cool is that?!) I’m Mrs. Donna Bokach and I’ve been teaching sixth grade at Columbia Middle School since 1994.  I earned my B.A. in Psychology from Lehigh University and my M.S. in Education from The University of Pennsylvania.  Both Lehigh and Penn helped me to realize the true purpose of education- teaching the whole child.

At Columbia I don’t teach just Social Studies, I teach children.  My goal is to help your child reach his/her highest potential- intellectually and academically, as well as socially and emotionally.  I hold high expectations, and I promise to do all I can to help your child meet those expectations.  I will strive to give your child my full respect, support and understanding.  From your child I expect hard work, cooperation and respect.  From you, the most important component in your child’s life, support and involvement are essential.  We are a team.  Working together and supporting one another will help your child succeed.

The best way to stay informed of your child’s grades is to check Powerschool weekly.  On Powerschool, in addition to grades and a current marking period average, you will see any missed work.  Also ask your child to see our Google Classroom stream where you will see daily work, upcoming quiz/test and assignment due dates, and resources used throughout the year, tips to organize and study, and links to classroom-related content.

I look forward to sharing the many experiences that will make this a challenging(!) but fun, exciting, and productive year for all of us.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  The best way to reach me is by email, dbokach@bhpsnj.org, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.   I hope you’re ready for an outstanding year.  I look forward to meeting and working with you and your child.  We have the power to make this unique historical experience great, so let’s do just that!
