    Summer 2022 Mathematics Summer Assignments

    and

    Practice Recommendations

It is recommended that ALL students practice their mathematics skills during the summer. Students will be assigned mathematics summer recommendations using Mathspace according to the math course they are enrolled in for the 2022-2023 school year (details below).

    • Students who will be using Mathspace next year will have set up an account in school before the end of June. For problems with Mathspace accounts, please contact Mr. Ziobro (Dziobro@bhpsnj.org or 908-508-1923 x1710).

This tool allows students to find additional practice, receive feedback, and find videos to explain concepts that they may have forgotten. The recommendations are designed to provide students with the opportunity to reinforce and review skills they have learned in the past. Please see the section below for additional information on the specific student recommendations.

     Students entering grade 6

Grade 6 Mathematics. Students are encouraged to review the topics from Common Core 5. Teachers will place specific recommendations in the students' Mathspace accounts with those topics that are foundational to grade 6 mathematics. These will show up as adaptive tasks with a target date of early September. Students will have access to their teacher after the start of school and will be required to complete these tasks during the first weeks of school if not completed over the summer. Students will also notice a custom task that has sample questions from each of these adaptive tasks. During the month of September, teachers will work with students to provide targeted feedback and instruction. Before the end of September, students will be assessed on these foundational skills using a custom task in Mathspace.

Accelerated Mathematics.- Students skipping grade 6 math and entering Accelerated Mathematics (“Pre-Algebra”) by demonstrating mastery of a majority of the 6th-grade topics via independent study or a course outside of our district. Since these students will be skipping most of the 6th-grade topics, it is important that they review these topics. Students should check their Mathspace accounts for specific recommendations from 5th and 6th-grade mathematics. After completing these recommendations, students should look to review the topics in the Common Core 6. After completing most of the Common Core 6 students are encouraged to look at Common Core 6-8 which contains the topics that they will learn starting in September.
