  • IMC Grove

This outdoor classroom was created in 2016 with a grant from the BHEF. Nestled under large maple trees, this classroom is perfect on a sunny day.

What is your favorite part about teaching in the outdoor classrooms?

"The students really enjoy it. I think that a change of scenery and getting outside on a nice day lifts everyone's spirits and as a result, helps students stay focused on their work."

  • Pollinator Park

Our second classroom was a collaborative effort. In 2018, GL student and Eagle Scout Doug Ladinski completed a redesign of the garden space and installed a patio. The GL PTO and Highlander Hut provided the tables, and the Highlander Hut purchased a WiFi extender to allow outdoor internet access.  Located next to the Pollinator Garden, this classroom is a wonderful place to observe life in the garden. The patio is made of permeable pavers that allow water to percolate through preventing stormwater runoff.

  • Softball Hill

Installed by the school in 2021, this area offers a nice place to join friends for lunch, practice reading lines from a play, or to meet with colleagues.

What is your favorite part about teaching in the outdoor classrooms?

"... sometimes when you change the environment, it just changes the kids ...as soon as (I say) let's go outside, they're energized..."
