The GL community is committed to sustainability.
Highlights:

2022 - The Board of Education adopted a Sustainability Policy and GL was the only NJ high school recognized as an Arbor Day Tree Campus K-12 School. Read more here.

2020 - GL became the only NJ high school to have a certified Arboretum.

2017 - AP Environmental Science students installed a pollinator garden.

2016 - Rutgers installed a rain garden to capture stormwater runoff.

2015 - We won a $10,000 Sustainable Jersey grant to upgrade lighting in our gyms.

2012 - The district installed solar panels at GL and Woodruff Elementary.

Since 2016, GL students have planted 32 native trees on campus.

Since 2015, we have installed six water bottle refill stations.

We have a long-running Environmental Club.

We have three outdoor classrooms.

Each year, more than 125 GL students take an Environmental Science course.

We partner with the Berkeley Heights Environmental Commission to restore habitats, plant trees, and educate community members.
